About Our Grants
The Fred M Roddy Foundation is a relatively small foundation focusing on medical and health projects, often with an educational component. With limited funds, the foundation looks for projects where we can make a real impact, so making a case for the impact of any grant you apply for is critical. Our main grant categories are:
- Capital Projects
- Pilot Programs
We do not provide grants for ongoing operational expenses.
Note: A ballpark range of first-time grants is 25-50K.
Capital Projects
Fred M Roddy Foundation’s grants are focused on lasting impact on charities in our community by supporting their equipment needs and facilities.
Examples:
- Specialized Equipment for Medical or Health-Related Research
- Computers and Software Systems
- Room Renovations for Specific Purpose
Note: We do not make contributions to capital campaigns. We’ve occasionally contributed to specific projects within a larger capital campaign, but that requires a project that fits our guidelines and can be executed within a reasonable time frame after receipt of the grant.
Pilot Programs
While we don’t do so often, we occasionally consider pilot programs if an applicant can make a compelling case for one.
- 1 to 2 (or 3) Year Program Where You Try Out a New Approach
- Clear Measures of Effectiveness (MOEs) From the Outset
- Yearly Updates on Progress
- Plan for Getting Other Funding in the Future If Successful
Other Options
With our limited funding and desire for a lasting impact in mind, we have previously made grants for:
- Endowed Scholarships
- Endowed Alzheimer’s Respite Care
Depending on our available resources and other pending projects, we may be open to these or other projects when you contact us.
Please contact us well in advance to see if your idea could work for us.
Our Criteria
We will only invite you to apply if we see a high chance your grant application will succeed. Our criteria include:
- The Potential Impact of Grant
- Numbers Served
- Strength of Organization (Overall Financial Health)
- Ability to Implement Project or Program
- Feasible and Realistic Implementation Plan/Timeline
